Social purpose in an organization from the perspective of an employee: a self-determination outlook on the meaning of work

Abstract Objective Advancing social purpose in organizations is usually studied from the macro perspective, i.e., how it benefits organizational business goals or society more broadly. In this paper, we focus on perspective of employee and propose that advancing an organization allows individuals to fulfil important human need for meaning work (MW). This study’s objective was assess whether a volunteering Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program manufacturing company employees their basic psychological needs relatedness, competence, autonomy. The data collected through in-depth interviews with 15 analysis artifacts. Results analysis, three main themes describing different aspects voluntary at were identified. We found across all groups interviewed activities served (1) (2) (3) conclude CSR programs have most positive impact MW when they allow engage prosocial actions satisfy those needs.
